About Dale

Welcome! ようこそ!

Hello!
My name is Dale. I live in beautiful Port Macquarie, in New South Wales, Australia. I’m an experienced high school teacher making the career change to more technical fields.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University, majoring in Japanese Studies, with a minor in Computer Science. I’ve also completed a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) from Southern Cross University, which started my journey into high school Languages teaching.

For years I taught Japanese language to students public schools in Bankstown, Blacktown and the Mid-North Coast of NSW. Recently, I’ve turned my hand to working in the independent sector for the local Catholic parish.

Due the explosion of Artificial Intelligence, the world is swiftly changing, as is the demand for learning foreign languages. The future of my current role seems unclear. And so, the last few years I have continued to acquire new skills, completing a Certificate II in Electrotechnology, and an Assessor Skill Set (TAESS00019) with VET providers. Most recently, I have started a Graduate Certificate in Cloud Computing and Virtualisation at Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie, with the aim of expanding and updating my Information Technology skills.

This website is both a journal of my studies and career change, and also a test-bed for my self-study of IT skills. This WordPress is running on an Apache server hosted on a Linux based virtual cluster (via Proxmox) in my garage. The hardware is a HP ProLiant DL380 G7 Server, with two Xeon X5660 CPUs and 24GB of RAM. I hope to use it to learn as many new things about virtualisation, containers, clusters, web-hosting and databases.

Come follow me on my journey!
